Spain's Rioja control board has increased its marketing budget to around EUR10m (US$11m), part of its overall EUR14.9m spend for 2015.

The overall figure is a 5.3% increase on 2014 with the aim being to improve the region's position in major markets. Activities so far have included tastings in Shanghai and Chengdu, food pairing in Chicago and the DOC's first participation in German wine fair Prowein.

The region also celebrated near 30% sales growth in Mexico.

Last month, Pernod Ricard's Campo Viejo announced a "contemporary style of Rioja", exclusive to Travel Retail.
