Terlato launched an artisan spirits unit last year

Riazul Tequila is launching in the US after signing a “long-term” marketing agreement with Terlato Wines.

The Mexican distiller will export three Riazul brands - Anejo, Reposado and Plata - from the first quarter of this year, Illinois-based Terlato said yesterday (7 January). The blue agave Tequilas will go on sale in “selected” US markets, Terlato added.

No financial details have been disclosed.

The labels are the latest to be added to Terlato's new artisan spirits unit, launched in August. The Anejo (SRP of US$65) is aged for two years and fermented in French limousine oak Cognac barrels with vanilla tannins, while Reposado ($55) is aged for nine months in French and American oak barrels. The Plata ($45) is bottled after distillation.

Entrepreneur Inaki Orozco started Riazul in the late 1990s from his family's estate in Jalisco.
