South African soft drinks group, Amalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI), posted revenue for the first six months of the currrent fiscal year of R2.031 billion, up 18% from the corresponding period last year. The company said profit from operations rose by 23% to R201m, while volumes were 7.6% ahead.

ABI's managing director, Alan Clark, said the results were slightly ahead of expectations. "These results demonstrate the resilience of our core carbonated soft drinks brands, which grew by 4.8%, and the success of our new products, including Powerade, Valpre, Bon Aqua, Nestea and Appletiser. New products now comprise 4.3% of our total volume - up from 3.5% at the year-end."
