GERMANY: Radeberger awaits all-clear on wholesaler buy

Germany's largest brewer Radeberger Gruppe is awaiting anti-trust approval for the acquisition of drinks wholesaler Getraenke Schenker.

Radeberger, which controls around 15% of the German beer market, has registered its plans to buy Getraenke Schenker with the country's cartel office, a spokesperson confirmed today (4 January).

The spokesperson said Radeberger is looking to bolster its presence throughout Germany at the wholesaler level.

She declined to comment further and added that the German cartel office had yet to indicate how long it would take to come to a decision.

Brandenburg-based Getraenke Schenker has annual sales of around EUR30m (US$39.3m). Officials at the wholesaler could not be reached for comment as just-drinks went to press.
