The Russian president has vetoed a bill banning beer drinking in public, according to reports. President Vladimir Putin has vetoed the bill because it included a ban on beer with less than 0.5% alcohol, the Interfax news agency cited parliament member Valery Draganov as saying.

The Kremlin press office said it could not confirm the report, but the Russian Brewers Union also issued a statement saying the bill had been vetoed.

A law restricting beer advertising in Russia was passed last year.
