O’Neill Vintners & Distillers has launched a range of wines under the brand name Austerity for what it calls “post-recession consumers”.

The two US$17 wines, a 2013 Arroyo Seco Chardonnay and a 2013 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, have been released in time for the holiday season and are aimed at people seeking “quality appellation wines at an affordable price”. “The recent recession hit wine lovers’ pocketbooks hard, but the market is starting to rebound as evidenced by increased wine sales,” a spokesperson said.

Californian wine producer O’Neill this year partnered with Cecchetti Wine Co to merge the winemaking and sales elements for their wine brands.
