Distell's Burn Stewart Distillers division has released a limited edition expression of its Ledaig single malt Scotch whisky brand. The 1972 vintage malt is named Dùsgadh, meaning ‘awakening’ in Scot’s Gaelic and it is said to be the rarest and oldest Ledaig to be released.
Ten bottles are now available at the Le Clos airport shop in Dubai International Airport.
Each box of Ledaig 42 Year Old contains a hand-crafted copper card, which entitles the buyer to inherit a bottle of Ledaig 10 Year Old from the last distillate from the old stills, which will be available in 2025.
The packaging was inspired by the copper from the retired stills, which released the first spirit in 1972. The aged copper has been used as part of the packaging.
Le Clos, the fine wine and luxury spirits retailer at Dubai International, has announced it is the first in the world to offer the rare Ledaig 42 Year Old to global consumers, underlining its leading status in the drinks and travel retail market.
The 1972 vintage malt named Dùsgadh, meaning ‘awakening’ in Scot’s Gaelic, reflecting the long, dormant period of maturation, is the rarest and oldest Ledaig ever released. Ten bottles are now available at Le Clos, which has fast become renowned for securing some of the most exclusive products in the world for its customers travelling through Dubai International airport, the world’s busiest airport.*
Ben Odgers, General Manager, Le Clos, commented, “We are passionate about making exceptional wines and spirits accessible to our customers travelling to and through Dubai. To have an island whisky of more than 40 years old is extremely rare, so we know that there will be many whisky lovers around the world who will want to get their hands on a bottle.”
Jan De Bruyn, Regional Business Manager, Distell Asia Pacific, commented, “As Le Clos is experienced at bringing unique products such as our precious 42 Year Old whisky to market, it is a real honour to launch it here first. Dubai International is a true travel hub with a vast array of international customers passing through and to Dubai, and we are excited to be able to share something so unique with them.”
As an appreciation of its customers’ commitment to Ledaig, each box of Ledaig 42YO available for USD 5,200 (AED 19,000), contains a handcrafted copper card, which entitles the buyer to inherit a bottle of Ledaig 10YO from the last distillate from the old stills, which will be available in 2025.
The luxurious packaging which houses Ledaig 42YO has been inspired by the copper from the retired stills, which released the first spirit in 1972 and has finally reached the end of its distilling life. The aged copper has been used as part of the Ledaig 42YO packaging to celebrate this milestone and honour its rich heritage.
The launch of Ledaig 42 YO at Le Clos complements the award-winning retailer’s extensive portfolio of more than 1,200 fine wines and 400 luxury spirits. This, as well as its unique services, such as complimentary bottle engraving, in-store tastings and a concierge delivery service, highlight Le Clos’ dedication to providing a world class shopping experience for its customers.
