The Portman Group is urging producers to make the health deal deadline

Drinks producers have "some way to go" to deliver on a pledge to offer health information on 80% of UK drinks labels by the end of next year, the Portman Group's head has warned.

Under the government's public health responsibility deal, producers have agreed to display on labels unit content, the government's safe drinking guidlines and warnings about alcohol and pregnancy. Current data, compiled by the Portman Group, shows around 60% of products are currently complying with the pledge.

"It’s encouraging to see drinks producers making good progress on this pledge but there is still some way to go to ensure 80% of products in UK stores are carrying this information by 2015," said Henry Ashworth, the Portman Group's chief executive.

"With 18 months remaining, I am confident that we will get there but now is the time for drinks producers who haven’t yet signed up to get on and do so."

The Portman Group is supported by its nine member companies: A-B InBev; Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands UK; Beverage Brands UK; C&C Group; Carlsberg UK; Diageo GB; Heineken UK; Molson Coors Brewing Company UK and Pernod Ricard UK.
