Turkish police have arrested 16 people in connection with the production and sale of bootleg raki - the traditional Turkish spirit - that claimed a number of lives last week.

Reports from the country said that, during the raids by police, bootleg gin and vodka was also seized.

A bootleg version of raki was reported to have claimed at least 21 lives last week with many others still in hospital receiving treatment.

Last week, just-drinks reported that Mey Drinks had been forced to recall millions of bottles of raki as a result of the problem.
