Russia's President Putin is looking into plans to renationalise the country's vodka industry, according to a press report yesterday.

The Business reported that in a letter from the Minister of Agriculture to Russia's vice premier Aleksandr Zhukov, it was suggested that a state monopoly on the production and sale of alcohol be set up.

In the letter, there is a call for a state-owned company to be set up with a monopoly right to purchase alcohol from its producers, store it and sell it to consumers.
