Pernod is taking Lillet's distribution in-house

Pernod Ricard has taken over US distribution of its Bordeaux wine aperitif, Lillet, from William Grant & Sons.

The move follows the end of William Grant's contract signed with Lillet's previous owner, Pernod told just-drinks today. The brand, which Pernod bought in 2008, joined the Pernod Ricard USA distribution portfolio on Friday.

"We are very excited to welcome this growing, profitable ... brand into our portfolio," said Bryan Fry, president & CEO of Pernod Ricard USA. "Lillet is a premium product with a ... world-renowned reputation within the bartender and mixology community."

Lillet is traditionally served on ice with a slice of orange peel but is also used in cocktails such as the Vesper and the Corpse Reviver #2. Described as Bordeaux's first and only aperitif, it was first produced in 1872.
