Pernod Ricard shareholders have elected Pierre Pringuet to be the company's first chief executive from outside of the founding family.

Shareholders approved the decision to make Pringuet CEO at Pernod's AGM yesterday (5 November), following the separation of the roles of chairman and CEO at the French drinks giant.

Patrick Ricard, family member and previous holder of those positions, will continue as chairman of the board.

The move marks the first time Pernod Ricard has reached outside its founding family for a CEO. Pringuet has worked as Ricard's number two, the sole managing director, since 2005.
