Pernod Ricard's South African subsidiary has launched Ilala Cream, a cream liqueur using the sap of the indigenous Ilala Palm. This follows the success of a limited release of the product, marketed through key clients over the Christmas period.

It will fight in the medium price range (ZAR49 for a 750ml bottle) and the local company has already started looking at securing export orders in countries where cream liqueurs are popular.

A spokesperson said from Stellenbosch that where possible they would try to market Ilala Cream through Pernod Ricard's international distribution channels. There were certain regions where this would not be possible and outside agents would be sought.
