PepsiCo has said that it plans to launch three new drinks under the Pepsi and Mountain Dew brands sweetened with natural sugar.

The soft drinks giant said yesterday (5 March) that it would launch Pepsi Natural, as well as limited edition "retro" versions of its Pepsi and Mountain Dew brands, to be called 'Throwback'.

All three new drinks lines will be sweetened with natural sugar, instead of alternatives such as high fructose corn syrup, while the Throwback products will be launched in "retro-look" packaging.

Positioned as a premium cola, Pepsi Natural is made with all-natural ingredients, including lightly sparkling water, natural sugar, natural caramel and kola nut extract. The group added that the amber-hued cola gets its color from natural caramel and natural apple extract.

It will be available in the following ten regional markets, beginning March and April: Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas and New York.

Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback will be available nationally for eight weeks only, beginning 20 April.

Frank Cooper, VP of portfolio brands at Pepsi-Cola North America Beverages, said: "Pepsi Natural and the Throwback duo give consumers the opportunity to refresh how they experience soft drinks - from a premium, all-natural beverage to a fun, retro twist on two of our most popular brands."
