UK/EUROPE: PepsiCo make Cadbury enquiry (report)

By | 23 September 2005

PepsiCo has requested information on Cadbury Schweppes' European beverages business, put up for sale by the London-based sweets to soft drinks group earlier this month, reports said today.

Cadbury sent out information on its European drinks arm to potential bidders earlier this month, setting mid-October as a deadline for bids. According to a report in the Financial Times, it is this information memorandum that PepsiCo has reportedly requested. Neither Cadbury Schweppes nor PepsiCo have commented on the matter.

A number of prominent private equity groups are thought to be interested in buying Cadbury's European drinks arm, which includes brands such as Schweppes tonic water, Orangina and Oasis and is valued at more than GBP1bn (US$1.8bn). Cadbury Schweppes has engaged US investment bank Goldman Sachs to conduct the sale.
