Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton has proven the perfect marketing tool for a new low-carbohydrate Australian beer.

Bondi Blonde, a beer named after the iconic Sydney beach, is owned by well-known local family, the Singletons, and their Bluetongue Brewery.

In a stroke of marketing bravado the brewer engaged Hilton to fly to Sydney over the New Year period and promote the beer. The move paid off.

In a six-day visit, the story managed 163 press articles and featured in over 2,000 TV items, bringing the total cumulative TV audience to 16m. Estimates have put the cost of engaging Hilton at about A$440,000 (US$342,000).
