English winemaker Nyetimber has agreed a deal to export its wines to Japan, its first overseas market.

The company, with vineyards in West Sussex, has signed a distribution agreement with Tokyo-based premium wine distributor Enoteca, it said yesterday (25 April). Nyetimber's wines will be supplied in Japan from June.

"Japan is an extremely discerning wine market and we are looking forward to a very successful future (there) ,” said Christian Holthausen, Nyetimber’s marketing & communications manager.

A Enotecas spokesperson said  “We are confident that Nyetimber will have much success in Japan.”

Last autum, Nyetimber said it would not be using supplies from its 2012 harvest after poor weather, but would make up shortfalls from previous harvests.
