The US brewing giant Anheuser-Busch was reported today to have been looking internally into the possibility of developing a low-carb version of its Budweiser beer.

The newswire Dow Jones yesterday reported Bob Lachky, vice president of brand management and director of global brand creative for Anheuser-Busch, saying that although the company had "definitely considered" such an idea, it had no plans to market test such a product.

However, he added that the company hasn't given any thought to reformulating Bud Light to have fewer carbohydrates.

The decision behind not reformulating Bud Light or launching a low-carb Bud was in part due to sales of Michelob Ultra.

Lachky  said: "…when you look at what we have - Michelob Ultra with its premium margins - it wouldn't make sense to come out and undercut it."
