New York's agriculture department is helping to fund websites run by local wineries to attract more tourists and boost sales.

The grants provide matching grants up to US$2,500 to create or improve websites, including adding age verification software, features for direct shipment, online payment processing, or improving handicapped accessibility or graphics.

Nearly US$266,000 in grants will go to 114 wineries. New York wineries have been able to directly ship wine in state and outside of the state - if reciprocal shipping agreements are in place - since August last year, and can ship up to nine litres per year to a single individual.
