Golden Kaan Ltd has appointed a new vice-president of sales and marketing for Golden Kaan USA. The president of the new global South African brand of single varietal wines, Marian Kopp, said yesterday (1 February) that Erik Ran will assume the position, as he comes across from Allied Domecq Wines USA.

At AD Wines USA, Ran was vice-president of trade marketing. Prior to AD, Ran spent nearly 10 years at E&J Gallo in various positions including sales and marketing in the US, Asia and Europe.

He will be responsible for all Golden Kaan sales and marketing activities in the US.

In a statement, Kopp said: "We are very excited to have Erik join the Golden Kaan USA team. With Erik's vast experience and talent we look forward to developing Golden Kaan as the leading wine brand of South Africa in the US market."

Golden Kaan is a joint venture between Racke, the German-based brand specialist, and KWV International, a South African wine producer.

Following the brand's launch in June 2003, Golden Kaan sold 250,000 cases in Europe within 10 months. The brand is due to start a limited roll-out in the next few weeks, with a full US roll-out expected in the first half of this year.
