The National Commission for Agriculture and Foodstuffs Labelling and Certification (CNLC) has given its approval to introduce the AB (Agriculure Biologique) label for wine made from grapes cultivated using organic or biological farming methods.

From 1 January, French wines made from such grapes will be able to carry the AB label.

France is following in the steps of some other EU countries, including Germany, where the "Bio-Siegel" label is already in use.

French organic wine growers have been lobbying for the AB label for some time. The relevant EU legislation in this area dates back to 1991.
