USA: New Caramel-Flavored Frappuccino Hits Aisles Nationally
"Frappuccino is driving explosive growth in the ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee segment, carving an important niche in the alternative beverage market," said Bruce Schroder, General Manager, North American Coffee Partnership. "About one-third of Starbucks retail blended coffee beverages are caramel-flavored. By adding caramel to Frappuccino, we're expanding the category with an extremely popular flavor and introducing more people to RTD coffee."
Caramel Frappuccino is available in single-serve 9.5-ounce bottles and 9.5-ounce four-packs. Frappuccino Coffee Drink comes in five other flavors: Mocha, Coffee, Vanilla, Mocha Lite and Mocha Amaretto.
Broadly targeted to people 18-34 who drink coffee or aspire to drink coffee, Frappuccino Coffee Drink is geared toward consumers interested in a cool new way to experience Starbucks coffee. Having made its test market debut in 1996 in Southern California, RTD Frappuccino expanded nationwide in 1997.
Caramel Frappuccino will be included as part of the brand's first national packaging promotion, "Weekend Getaway Instant Win Game." By purchasing specially marked bottles, the under-the-cap program enables consumers to instantly win weekend getaway trips to destinations of their choice and coupons for Frappuccino Coffee Drink.
