Nestle Waters has informed its central works council that it is considering the possibility of selling Perrier. The move will be examined along with other proposals, including grouping the Vittel and Contrex organisations into a single structure.

These projects will be reviewed and presented to employee representatives in the coming weeks, the company said in a statement.

Nestle Waters had to shelve plans for industrial re-organisation at Perrier - which had centred on shedding 1,047 jobs by 2007 using an early retirement package due to opposition from the majority labour union.

At the works council meeting, the management also highlighted that "alternative solutions needed to be considered to develop industrial and business projects that would ensure the future of both the company and its brands."
