Distell's Nederburg winery has added a premium pot-still brandy to its wine portfolio. The Paarl-based winery previously had an experimental brandy, but has taken the step to introduce its Solera style brandy to the growing premium sector.

At the launch, Distell MD Jan Scannell said that the fortunes of brandy in recent times had become quite robust and that it was still a popular spirit. About 40m litres a year were consumed locally and sales were growing.

Scannell added that the Nederburg Solera Brandy was being pitched at a younger audience, particularly in fine dining restaurants, sophisticated bars or lounges.
