Mey Drinks has been forced to recall millions of bottles of an aniseed liquor it sells in Turkey.

According to local reports, the company's CEO Galip Yorgancioglu said that he was recalling all 0.7 litre bottles of the Tekel brand raki after 17 deaths from a bootleg version of the drink. Several other consumers are in hospital after consuming the fake drink.

According to the reports, the country's authorities believe bootleggers stole labels for the bottles.

Up to 5m bottles are to be recalled. All will be destroyed.

Turkish police have made several raids and arrests on underground distilleries they believe to be involved in the production of the bootleg liquor.
