Molson Coors has test-launched a new cider inspired by the Mexican street drink Tepache.

Tepacho is a slightly sparkling pineapple flavoured cider targeted at 18-34 year olds. Molson Coors said it is the first of its kind in the UK market and lends itself to "fiesta-type" occasions. 

Speaking to just-drinks today, Molson Coors' UK & Ireland marketing director, Martin Coyle, said Tepacho taps into consumer appetites for new flavours and fruit-based sweeter flavours.

"It's a really nice balance between it being crisp and with a real infusion of pineapple sweetness," Coyle said.

Tepacho is on trial in bars across East London and is the first Molson Coors product to be launched through the brewer's new marketing unit, Brew + Press. Coyle said that nearly all new Molson Coors products will be test-launched through Brew + Press, which was unveiled this week.

Brew + Press will be offering consumers the chance to experience Tepacho in three styles: The Perfect Serve (Tepacho with a squeeze of lime); The Theatrical Serve (Tepacho with lemon and salt); and the Pina Collins (Tepacho with white rum, lemon juice and sugar syrup). 

Tepache is commonly a homemade fermented beverage in Mexico made from pineapple peel and rind. Is is sweetened with brown sugar and cinnamon.
