RUSSIA: Moldova will resume wine exports - report
By just-drinks.com editorial team | 10 October 2007
Moldova plans to resumes its wine exports to Russia, according local reports.
The Moldova-Vin agricultural and industrial agency said yesterday (10 October), that the longstanding ban on Moldovan wine imports shall resume.
In March last year, Russia introduced the ban on wine imports from Moldova, claiming that the wine contained pesticides. Politicians in Moldova claimed the ban was politically motivated and had nothing to do with the quality of the country's wine.
They argued that Russia enacted the ban in support of Trans-Dniester, a breakaway Moldovan province that wants closer ties with Moscow.
These reports are the latest in a string which have suggested an end to the ban, stretching back as far as January this year.
