MillerCoors has unveiled further details of a citrus, seasonal version of its Coors Light brand, which will launch in May.

Coors Light Summer Brew will have an abv of 3.9% and come in 12-packs of 10oz cans, the company’s sales president Ed McBrien told just-drinks today (10 February). In an exclusive interview, McBrien described the drink as “Coors Light with citrus notes”.

On deciding on Summer Brew’s strength, he said: “We tested a number of different variants, some were low alcohol, some were the current strength of Coors Light. Beer drinkers came back saying clearly that they wanted alcohol content consistent with Coors Light.”

The US nation-wide launch of the brand will also be backed by a TV advertising campaign, McBrien added. The beer, which will only be available during the US Summer months, had proved popular in testing among “multi-cultural” drinkers.

Meanwhile, MillerCoors today launched Miller Fortune, a 6.9% golden lager aimed at capturing share from the spirits market.

The full interview with McBrien will run later this month on just-drinks.
