NZ: Marlborough wineries slammed over waste water

Wine producers in New Zealand's Marlborough region have been told to clean up their act after a third of wineries were reportedly found to have breached local rules on waste water.

According to local press reports last weekend, 13 of 43 wineries failed a waste water survey carried out by Marlborough District Council.

Local authorities have issued six infringement notices in what was said to be the most damning report in five years. Resource management compliance officer Joanne Smart told local reporters that some of the wineries were aware of the problems but had not taken action to fix them until asked to by the council.
