Mahou San Miguel is chasing its rival brewer Grupo Alhambra, according to local reports.

The Spanish company has tabled a takeover for Alhambra, the El Pais newspaper said yesterday (2 November), which has been accepted by the brewer's shareholders but is dependent on anti-trust approval.

While Mahou did not provide the paper with financial details, Spanish daily paper Ideal said that Alhambra is worth in the region of EUR200m (US$254m).

The company, which has facilities in Granada and Córdoba, enjoyed a 9.3% rise in sales to EUR 895.2m in 2005. As well as its namesake beer, the company also produced Mezquita.
