Lion Nathan, the Australian beer and wine company compay, is confident it will deliver on its estimates for double-digit earnings growth for 2002.

Lion Nathan's third quarter results saw volumes up 1% on the same period last year. And encouragingly, the company's three leading brands Tooheys New, XXXX Gold and Hahn Premium Light, were all up on last year.

"Our New Zealand volumes also grew, up 3%, with the premium brands led by Steinlager, and Speight's particularly strong."

The company's CEO Gordon Cairns likened third quarter market conditions for the company's Australian and New Zealand beer businesses to the first half. However he added that he believed that underlying market growth was a little stronger.

Wine, meanwhile also remained on-track and thanks to strong export demand and continuing growth in the premium local segment will deliver, particularly in May, would deliver full year wine earnings of A$8 million.

The company also confirmed it is on track to deliver full-year net profit after tax of about A$160 million.
