Liberty Wines will not be at this year's LIWF |
Liberty Wines has pulled out of this year's London International Wine Fair (LIWF), citing the location of the venue as a reason for its withdrawal.
The London-based importer and wholesaler said in a statement today (7 March) that it was taking a “break” from the high profile event after “much internal debate”. It is the first time in its 15-year history the company has not been present at LIWF.
“We remain committed to the idea of a London International Wine Fair that focuses on quality wine and is held in a more central venue. If such an event returns, then we will consider returning,” the statement said.
The venue for the event, the ExCeL centre, in London's Docklands, has drawn criticism from commentators previously.
LIWF's event director of ten years, James Murray, quit in December. He has been replaced by Ross Carter, previously an event manager for the LIWF between 2007 and 2009 and latterly a buyer at West Sussex-based wine importer PLB.
This year's LIWF takes place from 20-23 May.
