French hypermarket chain Leclerc, which claims to be France's leading bottled water distributor,  with 17.4% of sales,  is investing in its own bottling plant in Laqueuille, in the Puy-de-Dôme, which is also the home of Danone's  renowned mineral water, Volvic.

Leclerc's plant will have an output of 100m litres in its first year of activity, rising to 300m litres in the longer term and will employ up to 70 staff.

The spring water it produces, "L' Eau de source Laqueuille," will be brought onto the market in 2005  and sold under Leclerc's own "Repere" brand.
