La Mondiale has increased its holding in the Saint-Emilion wine area near Bordeaux, according to local reports.
Les Echos said yesterday (31 July) that the French insurance company has acquired Château-Soutard in the area. The Ligneris family had decided to sell the 22-hectare vineyard after owning it for almost 200 years, the paper noted.
The deal means that La Mondiale owns around 50 hectares of vineyards in and around Saint-Emilion. The company already owns the adjoining Château-Larmande vineyard.
Financial details of the purchase were not reported.
