FRANCE: Kronenbourg head to stand down

Scottish & Newcastle has confirmed that the managing director of Brasseries Kronenbourg is to leave.

A spokesperson for the brewer today (5 September) told just-drinks that Didier Lefevre will stand down at the end of the year. Lefevre issued an internal statement earlier this week, informing colleagues of his decision.

"There is a succession plan in train," the spokesperson said. "We expect to make an announcement within the next two months."

In a separate internal statement, S&N's CEO Tony Froggatt said: "Didier will be missed for his contribution to the French business. I wish him great success in the future."

The brewer's French unit has had a torrid time of late, with sales and margins feeling the pinch. Volumes at Brasseries Kronenbourg in the first six months of this year slid by 2.5% year-on-year.

Nevertheless, S&N believes it has turned the corner in the country, with its three core brands - Kronenbourg Red&White, Kronenbourg 1664 and Grimbergen - showing signs of improvement.

The spokesperson highlighted that there has been no need for an official announcement to the stock exchange of the departure as the move is below board level.
