US: Kahlua adds Mocha offering to range

Coffee liqueur brand Kahlua is to add a Mocha variant to its range in the US retail and on-premise channels. Kahlua Mocha will be available from June 2008, Pernod Ricard-owned Malibu-Kahlua International announced.

Kahlua Mocha is made with 100% Arabica coffee, natural vanilla and dark chocolate, and is designed to be drunk over ice, in contemporary cocktails or as a twist on classic Kahlua drinks, the company said.

The launch is to be supported by consumer in-store sampling, a 50ml trial programme and specially designed POS materials, including case cards and shelf talkers.

The new variant will be available in 50ml, 750ml, and 1-litre sizes, with the 750ml bottle selling for a suggested retail price of US$17.99.
 
"The rich, exotic flavour of dark chocolate is the perfect complement to Kahlua," said Cyril Claquin, senior vice president of marketing at Malibu-Kahlua International. "Mocha consistently ranks as a favourite among both our consumers and coffee drinkers, so we are confident that they will enjoy the pairing of Mocha with the unique flavour of Kahlua."

The launch of new flavours has been a key focus for the brand since it was acquired by Pernod Ricard in 2005. Kahlua Mocha joins a range that already includes original Kahlua, Kahlua Especial, Kahlua French Vanilla and Kahlua Hazelnut.

"Kahlua receives a great deal of attention within our premium portfolio, and we are confident that Mocha will add to the momentum that Kahlua French Vanilla and Kahlua Hazelnut have built since their launch in May 2007," said Susan Kilgore, brand director for Kahlua at Pernod Ricard USA.
