Just-drinks LIWSF 2006 Diary - 2 May
Coming up at this year's London International Wine & Spirit Fair…
The French Wine Zone will host over 160 companies showcasing French wines, including the Côtes du Rhône stand and the Vins de Pays Top 100 tasting area, as well as Loire Cabernet Franc wines, Corsica, the South of France and South West Wines. In addition, Bergerac will be part of the Aquitaine stand.
French Wines (stand H 70/2), the umbrella campaign for wines from France, will reveal new and exclusive consumer research, examining the real influence of price promotions on consumers' perception of value for money, and the extent to which packaging innovations can influence consumers' purchasing decisions.
Over 70 different wines from the Côtes du Rhone region will be on show at this year's stand (H 40/1). Six producers will be available to give information and advice about their wines. The discovery table also offers visitors an opportunity to taste a range of wines at their own pace.
For the third year running, the selected wines from the Vins de Pays Top 100 competition will be showcased in an open tasting area (stand I 40/1).
The Loire Cabernet Franc wines (stand H 50/2): will have a bespoke stand, created to resemble a dining room. The stand will feature some of the wines from the current Cabernet Franc project. Sam Harrop MW will host a daily wine tasting lunch for selected guests, where he will talk about the current project in the Loire vineyards, aimed at improving Cabernet Franc's export appeal.
Wines of Corsica will have a stand (I 60/1) showcasing a selection of wines. The two largest co-operatives of the area, L'Union des Vignerons de L'ile de Beauté (L'Uvib) and Les Vignerons Corsicans (l'Uval), will be present.
Launched at Vinisud earlier this year, AC Languedoc, AC Roussillon and Vins de Pays d'Oc will show their wines at a collective stand under the banner of The South of France - Languedoc Roussillon (stands I 40/2; I 50/1).
For the first time at the LIWSF, CIVSO (Comité Interprofessionnel des Vins du Sud Ouest) will this year showcase ACs and Vins de Pays from the South West of France on the same stand (H 40/2). In line with a new consolidated approach, a selection of the region's 19 ACs and 22 Vins de Pays will be featured.
As one of the most popular tourist destinations for British holidaymakers in France, the producers from Bergerac will for the first time team up with the stand of Aquitaine (stand H 60/2). Six producers will showcase an interesting selection of wines.
Hilltop Wines, the company recently appointed to promote Oregon Wine in the UK, have announced the Oregon wineries who have already signed up to attend the fair.
Situated on stand T2, the Hilltop team will be showing a selection of wines from the following wineries: Sokol Blosser, Elk Cove, King Estate, Firesteed, Cayalla, Benton-Lane, Bergstrom, Willamette Valley, Cristom, Bethel Heights, Torii Mor, Archery Summit, Maysara, Henry Estate, Eyrie Vineyards and Amity Vineyards.
The wineries represent a mix of those who already have a UK presence, along with those that are seeking representation in the market. Ted Farthing, executive director of the Oregon Wine Board, and Shirley Brooks, director of sales and marketing for Elk Cove Vineyards and UK market advisor for the board, will also be attending the fair.
Don't forget, just-drinks will be at the fair with its own stand (G10) - so come along and say hello, check your emails and let us know what you think of the new-look site.
