Southern France wine producer and trader Jeanjean, has acquired US importer and distributor, Cannon Wines, which has its headquarters in San Francisco.

The move is designed to strengthen Jeanjean's international position and build on its sales presence in the US where its subsidiary, Ogier, is already  well-established.

The Languedoc-Rousillion based family firm, which was founded in 1870, also has subsidiaries in Canada, Poland and China.

Jeanjean posted a consolidated turnover for the first nine months of the year of almost 100 million euros, up 5.3% on 2001 levels.

The company's mid-term objective is to raise turnover to €175m by 2005 and become the leader in quality wines from southern France - Languedoc-Roussillon, Vallée du Rhône and Provence.
