DRINKTEC 2009: International visitors drive Drinktec numbers

By | 21 September 2009

Some 60,000 visitors journeyed to Drinktec this year, the show's organiser has said, with international visitors accounting for 55% of the total.

Messe München GmbH said that the 33,000 trade visitors that came to Munich for the show from abroad represented a total of 170 countries.

There were particularly strong rises in visitor numbers from China, India, the US, South Africa, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates, and from South America and Africa, the show claimed.

However, Messe München GmbH admitted to a drop in the number of visitors from Germany (27,000) compared to the last time the event took place. Without giving the size of the fall, Drinktec said the decrease was expected.

Messe München GmbH managing director Norbert Bargmann said: "Overall we are very satisfied. In the run-up to drinktec we, too, had to contend with the global economic crisis. Nevertheless we have succeeded in bringing the top ranks of the beverage and liquid food industry to Munich - and that is the critical thing for the exhibitors."

The next drinktec takes place from 16 to 21 September 2013.
