The brewing group, Interbrew, has recalled some cans of its beer brand, Boddingtons Draught Bitter, fearing that they may have been contaminated with cleaning fluid.

"Interbrew UK have withdrawn from sale all Boddingtons Draught Bitter, 24 packs of 440 ml cans, batch code L2 302R with a best before date of August 03," the company said. "The affected product may contain traces of cleaning fluid used during the brewing process to clean the inside of beer storage tanks."

However, Interbrew added that the contamination, which it said may affect around 9,000 cans, did not represent a public health issue. Interbrew said the affected beer could have an unpleasant taste and smell and "if consumed may cause some discomfort to the mouth and throat."
