The Belgian brewing conglomerate, Interbrew, has issued an unequivocal statement saying that it has "no interest" in acquiring a majority stake in the German brewer, Brau und Brunnen, in response to recent speculation.

"The various assets of that company would not fit with Interbrew's existing regional platform and brand portfolio in the German market," Interbrew said.

Interbrew, which already owns the Hanover-based brewer, Gilde Brauerei, was one of the companies recently linked with acquiring the 55% stake in Brau und Brunnen owned by the German banking group, HVB.
