BELGIUM: InBev keeps eye on LatAm and India

By | 26 April 2007

InBev is continuing to consider possible acquisitions in Latin America and India.

The CEO of the global brewer was cited in Dow Jones reports earlier this week saying that Colombia, Mexico and India are on InBev's "radar screen".

"We already have India on our radar screen," Carlos Brito was cited as saying. "We tend to follow what goes on there."

Speaking to just-drinks today (26 April) a spokesperson for the brewer said: "Nothing particularly new was said to the press. We've been saying this for two years.

"Around 95% of our efforts are focused on growing the business we have, but we also have a couple of people out there looking for opportunities, including in Latin America," the spokesperson said.

InBev is due to issue its Q1 results on 10 May.

News this week that SABMiller and Molson Coors are to team up in the US beer market may have caught the industry by surprise, but the logic is compelling. As Olly Wehring reports, not only can the deal provide a boost to the country's number two and three brewers but it offers a significant challenge to Anheuser-Busch too.
