Ian Macleod Distillers has appointed Lars Bruns to the newly-created post of regional travel retail director for Europe.

Bruns will be based in Hamburg, Germany, and will work with the Scotch whisky distiller's global travel retail director, Andy Lane. Bruns has spent 18 years working in travel retail, although Ian Macleod did not give details of his previous posting.

"As part of his new role, Lars will assume responsibility for some of our major European travel retailer accounts," said Lane today (6 February). He said that the appointment will help Ian Macleod to develop better relations with key customers.

The distiller said that it is currently working on travel retail exclusives, adding that "exciting plans are underway for Ian Macleod’s flagship brand, Glengoyne Highland single malt, for later in the year".

Following its purchase of the Tamdhu distillery last year, the group also plans to display its newly-acquired Speyside single malt at the Cannes Tax Free World Exhibition late this year.

A spokesperson could not be immediately reached by just-drinks to give details on Bruns' previous employment.
