Heineken Italia has been appointed producer and distributor of Budweiser for Anheuser-Busch. The Italian subsidiary of Dutch brewer Heineken announced the deal on Thursday last week.

Heineken Italia and Anheuser Busch have signed a 10-year agreement with the possibility of a five-year extension, stating that Heineken Italia cannot distribute other North American beer either directly or through its units.

Prior to the deal, Italian brewery Birra Peroni Industriale (BPI) had been Budweiser's distributor since 1995. In May 2003, BPI was taken over by SAB Miller, who took a 60% stake in the Italian brewer.
