Heineken has lined up a television advert for Strongbow cider in the UK that highlights the brand's provenance for the first time.

The company, which inherited Strongbow when it acquired Scottish & Newcastle jointly with Carlsberg in 2008, said earlier today (1 July) that the ad marks the first time the UK-sourced cider has “communicated its cider making and quality credentials”. The ad will run nation-wide on UK TV from today.

Financial details behind the TV spot were not disclosed.

The cider category in the UK appears to have benefited from the FIFA World Cup, with consumers spending an extra GBP28m (US$48m) on beer and cider in the first week of the tournament last month.
