Heineken has acquired the Swiss beer brand Ittinger Kosterbraeu beer brand from Martin Wartmann, owner of the Actienbrauerei brewery in Frauenfeld, local reports have said.

According to the reports, Heineken intends to expand sales of the brand from its eastern base into the whole of Switzerland.

A total of 14,000 hectolitres of the Ittinger Kosterbraeu beer were sold in Switzerland in 2003.

A Heineken subsidiary, Calanda-Haldengut, has been producing the Ittinger Klosterbraeu beer since 2002.
