Guala Closures has opened a facility in California to help wineries in the state to design and create screwcap closures.

The Italian group, which bought the Metal Closures division of South Africa’s MCG Industries two years ago, has set up the 'design studio' in Fairfield, California, east of Napa. Production runs as low as 1,000 units can be handled by the facility.

It features digital printing, embossing and plasma technologies.

“We’ve had an administration office here for the last four years,” said Guala's US manager Alessandro Bocchio. “In that time, we worked out what type of production facility would meet the needs of our customers.”

Guala operates 25 manufacturing plants around the world.
