Great Spirits Company, the US drinks group, has bought Roaring Water Bay Spirits, the maker of Boru vodka.

The acquisition, structured as a merger, will result in the formation of a new company, Castle Brands. Great Spirits president Mark Andrews will head the new company, while Roaring Water founders Pat Rigney and David Phelan will hold seats on a five-person operating committee.

Castle Brands intends to invest around €10m over the next 12 months in marketing, brand development and seeking new markets. The company also plans to create more than 30 jobs in Ireland over the next three years.

Great Spirits has been the exclusive distributor for Roaring Water's Boru and Clontarf brands in the US for the past three years.
