SPAIN: Gov’t to promote wine routes to tourists
By Ivan Castano | 6 June 2006
Spain's government has teamed with tourism and wine-trade agencies to promote its wine regions.
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Ministry (MAPA), tourism institute Turespana and wine-route promoter Asociacion Espanola de Ciudades del Vino (Acevin), will work together to organise events and trips aimed at acquainting visitors with Iberia's wine culture.
Under the project, tourists would stroll vineyards across Spain, visit cellars and learn about wine making, the ministry said.
Acevin's wine routes boast 17 destinations in 150 muncipalities. They involve 600 wine purveyors located across La Mancha, Jumilla, Montilla-Moriles, Penedes, Somontano, Rioja Alavesa, Rias Baixas, Utiel-Requena and Navarre regions.
The promoters will publicise Acevin's route club at international wine fairs, marketing events and on the www.spain.info Web Site.
