The Hungarian government is planning to sell off the state-owned wine company, Tokaj Kerskedohaz, after it decided it could not finance further investment in the company.

Tokaj Kerskedohaz has received subsidies of some HUF8.0 billion ($33.1m/€33.2m) during the last few years. Farmers who supply the state-backed winery protested at the sell-off but Hungary's privatisation agency said it envisages a transparent privatisation procedure which will take into consideration the interests of the farmers.
